Valentine's Day is tomorrow and though some of us are super organized and have planned their date nights weeks in advance, there are others (yes, dear, I'm thinking of you) who are still posing the question: "Well, what should we do?" It may be a bit difficult to secure a reservation this late in the game, so I've come up with ten ideas you could do with your sweetie that won't require too much prior planning.
1. Have a sunset picnic on Indian Shores
Indian Shores is one the few beaches around that allows the use of a small, contained hibachi grill. This will amp up your sunset picnic and provide a romantic ambiance that you just can't get at our other, "no grills allowed" beaches.
2. Enjoy beers and gelato in downtown St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg has a long list of craft breweries that all offer exceptional varieties of beers and a laid back atmosphere. Many of them also offer food or access to some pretty awesome local food trucks. Spend some time playing trivia with your honey, then head over to Beach Dr for some out of this world gelato at Paciugo Gelato Caffe.
3. Watch the planes fly over in Cypress Point Park in Tampa
Pack a cooler and head over to one of the coolest parks in Tampa which happens to be located on beautiful Tampa Bay in the fly zone of Tampa International Airport. No matter your age or your interest level in aircraft, you can't help but feel exhilarated when a passenger plane flies so low over your head, you feel like you could reach up and touch it.
4. Kayak at Fort Desoto
Kayaking the tributaries at Fort Desoto is a peaceful activity that doens't require much in the way of expertise. The Topwater Kayak Outpost at Fort Desoto Park offers canoe and kayak rentals to both newbies and experienced paddlers. Feeling extra romantic? Rent a kayak for two!
5. Play disc golf at Taylor Park in Largo
It's free and fun and if you love a challenge, you'll certainly get that while trying to throw a small frisbee-like disc into a chain link basket 250 feet away.
6. Hold hands and couples skate at Astro Skate in Pinellas Park
Valentine's Day falls on a Wednesday night this year, which just so happens to be Adult Night at Astro Skate. Jam skate like you used to and share a slice of snack bar pizza with your honey.
7. Visit the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs
Treat yourselves to some delicious baklava while you stroll down Dodecanese Blvd stopping at the unique shops along the way.
8. Drop in and take a yoga class
There are many yoga studios to choose from in Tampa Bay, and no matter what your level, sharing some zen time with your Valentine will make for a relaxing evening together.
9. Blow kisses to the manatees at the TECO Electric Viewing Center
Though there's no guarantee, February is generally a good time of year to hang out with a bunch of manatee at the Teco plant in Apollo Beach. They close the viewing center at 4pm, so though you don't need a reservation, you will need to do a little planning ahead.
10. Pick up a bucket of bait and head to John's Pass or the Skyway Bridge for some fishing
There are actually tons of places in Tampa Bay to fish, but these two spots are my favorite. At John's Pass, if the fish aren't biting, you can head over to the boardwalk and get some ice cream instead. If you choose to head to the Skyway Bridge, you could have a retro breakfast or lunch at famous Skyway Jack's or dinner at The Crab Trap in Palmetto.
There are so many wonderful things to do in Tampa Bay! What are some of your ideas for a fun Valentine's Day?
